About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Daytime Manager to oversee café and bookstore operations during daytime hours. This person will lead our opening team, set the tone for service, and ensure smooth, efficient operations rooted in care and excellence.

Management experience is a must. The ideal candidate has a proven track record managing a café, bookstore, or similar hospitality business and knows how to motivate a team while maintaining high standards. You’ll collaborate closely with ownership and the evening manager to ensure a seamless transition between daytime and evening service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all daytime operations (9 AM–5 PM), including opening procedures, staff coordination, and guest experience.

  • Lead café and bookstore staff, ensuring quality service, cleanliness, and hospitality standards.

  • Supervise barista and retail workflows, addressing challenges calmly and constructively.

  • Handle scheduling, cash handling, POS management (Square), and inventory tracking.

  • Coach and develop team members through feedback and clear communication.

  • Collaborate with the evening manager and ownership on systems, merchandising, and programming.

  • Model warmth, professionalism, and community-centered leadership at all times.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience in a café, bookstore, or hospitality environment (required).

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate staff in fast-paced settings.

  • Skilled in conflict resolution, feedback conversations, and team development.

  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Comfort with both coffee and retail operations.

  • Passion for literature, hospitality, and creating inclusive community spaces.

  • Familiarity with Square POS and basic administrative systems (scheduling, inventory, etc.).

Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours: Full-time (starting 30–40 hours/week).

  • Typical Schedule: Sunday–Thursday, 9:30 AM–5:00 PM.

Compensation: $28/hr plus profit sharing after a year of service
